POSITION SPECIFIC DETAILS:

Hours: 20 hours/week, Part Year*
Location: Union Corners-2674 Milwaukee Street, Madison

Position start date - August 13, 2024

Pay: $19.01/hour

SUMMARY:
The Family Outreach Worker (FOW) is responsible for developing a trusting relationship with Head Start parents as a support and resource person. This person reinforces the crucial role of parents as the primary educator of their children through coordination with the classroom and ensures that all health, enrollment and other identified individualized needs of children and their families are met. This person assumes a lead role in implementing social service coordination by providing on-going comprehensive support and case management services to assigned families that promote Family Wellbeing, Parent/Child Relationships, Families as Lifelong Educators, Families as Learners, Family Engagement in Transitions, Family Connections to Peers and Community, and Families as Advocates and Leaders. Practice with families and colleagues is informed using Head Start Relationship-Based Competencies, a Trauma Informed approach and Reach Dane Core Values.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Preferred Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related Human Service field with a minimum of 1 year of experience working with low-income, multicultural families.
  • Minimum High School Diploma and completion of the Family Service Credential within eighteen months of hire.
  • Bilingual Spanish Preferred
  • Demonstrated experience and/or skills in family support and guidance including: community resource usage and referrals, case management and advocacy.
  • Community connections and development.
  • Effective approaches that support family self-sufficiency
  • Have a valid Wisconsin Driver's License, motor vehicle and adequate liability insurance as required by agency policy and state liability regulations.

*Part Year employees have built in vacations which include summer break, 2 weeks in winter, and spring break (part year staff follow the school district calendar in which their program is located
