Therapeutic Mental Health Leader

Pay: $20/$21 an hour

SUMMARY

The Head Start Therapeutic Mental Health Leader works collaboratively with classroom staff and other team members to achieve social emotional outcomes for enrolled children who may have experienced trauma and/or other societal inequities that promote regulation, safety, connection, and healing among children and caregivers. The Mental Health Leader uses a frame of anti-bias, anti-racist, approaches informed by trauma research and neuroscience to implement curriculum and practices that centers social emotional growth and healing at the heart of all classroom and program practices and activities. 

 

Qualifications/Required Skills: 

  • Bachelorís degree in social work, psychology, family studies, or related field (Masterís degree in social work, counseling, or marriage and family therapy or related field preferred) 

  • Knowledge of trauma, effects and manifestations in children and adults, and trauma sensitive approaches to working with children and adults 

  • Knowledge of ACEs, resilience, and protective factors  

  • Knowledge of and experience implementing anti-bias early child education principles and pedagogies 

  • Experience working with Head Start and knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards preferred 

  • Knowledge of early childhood development, particularly preschool 3-5 age group 

  • Knowledge of and experience implementing social emotional learning strategies that utilize or incorporate brain-based principles and practices  

  • Ability to design and implement curriculum that centers social emotional learning at the heart of all classroom activities, routines, learning experiences 

  • Ability to tailor curriculum to fit individual needs  

  • Knowledge of the techniques and principles of child and family development, family systems theory, crisis intervention, individual, family, group and play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and trauma response, child abuse and family violence, and trauma focused interventions 

  • Knowledge of early childhood development, particularly preschool 3-5 age group 

  • Knowledge of and experience implementing social emotional learning strategies that utilize or incorporate brain-based principles and practices  

  • Ability to design and implement curriculum that centers social emotional learning at the heart of all classroom activities, routines, learning experiences 

  • Ability to tailor curriculum to fit individual needs
