Family Advocate

The Family Advocate is responsible for developing a trusting relationship with EHS parents as a support and resource person. Advocates plan, develop and implement appropriate prenatal, family and child development curriculum and other activities that will enhance the parent/child bond and relationship; reinforce the crucial role of parents as the primary educator of their children; ensure that all special education, health, mental health and nutritional needs of children are met; serve as a positive liaison to other community agencies, providing assistance and guidance to families; assume a lead role in implementing social service coordination by providing on-going comprehensive support and case management services to assigned families which promote positive family development/self-sufficiency and social competency; and assume a lead role in assuring parent involvement through opportunities that foster parent and family growth.


  •  Successfully pass the Background Verification Day Care check as required by the State of Wisconsin Administrative Rules.
  •  Minimum educational requirement of a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Early Childhood, Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy or closely related field. Additional coursework may be required to meet the educational equivalent of a Home Based CDA.
  •  A minimum of three years’ experience working with low income, multi-cultural families.
  •  Demonstrated experience and/or skills in family support and guidance including:
    • Addressing mental health needs, community resource usage, case management and advocacy.
    • Community development.
    • Effective approaches that support family self-sufficiency.
  •  Must be at least 21 years of age.
  •  Have a valid Wisconsin Driver's License, motor vehicle and adequate liability insurance as required by agency policy and state liability regulations.
